AMOXON CV D/S

Amoxon CV D/S is an antibiotic medication that contains two active ingredients:

  1. Amoxicillin (200 mg): A broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic.
  2. Clavulanic acid (28.5 mg): A beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent bacterial resistance by blocking the enzymes that would normally inactivate amoxicillin.

Uses:

Amoxon CV D/S is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia)
  • Ear, nose, and throat infections (e.g., sinusitis, otitis media)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Dental infections
  • Bone and joint infections

It is commonly prescribed when bacteria produce beta-lactamase, which would otherwise degrade amoxicillin alone. The addition of clavulanic acid helps extend the antibiotic’s spectrum of activity.

Side Effects:

Common Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort.
  • Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, or hives.
  • Oral or vaginal thrush: Overgrowth of yeast can occur after antibiotic use.
  • Headache: A relatively mild and transient side effect.

Serious Side Effects:

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis): Difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, and severe rash (requires immediate medical attention).
  • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea: Prolonged diarrhea, which can be serious and related to a change in the balance of gut bacteria.
  • Liver dysfunction: Rarely, liver enzymes may become elevated, leading to jaundice, dark urine, or abdominal pain.
  • Severe skin reactions: Rare conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) may occur.

Less Common Side Effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Changes in taste perception
  • Low platelet or white blood cell counts

Precautions:

  • Not recommended for individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins.
  • May interact with other medications, such as blood thinners (e.g., warfarin).
  • Should be used cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment.

It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment, even if symptoms improve early, to avoid the development of resistant bacteria.
